Rocky Hill Cops Looking for Car Thieves

Police are warning residents about leaving doors unlocked.

ROCKY HILL, CT — Police are looking for car thieves who hit an area of Rocky Hill early Wednesday morning.

On 1:57 a.m., a citizen contacted the Rocky Hill Police Department to report a group of people who stole one car and attempted to burglarize other vehicles, according to a report.

Officers located a suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed, according to a report. It nearly hit responding police patrol vehicles and a pursuit had to be called off, police said.

Police suspected that addition suspects had fled on foot and a state police dog unit was called in, according to a report. Meanwhile, a resident reported that a vehicle was just stolen from a driveway on Bailey Road, according to a report.

Neither the vehicle nor any suspects were found, police said.

Police said there has been a spike in motor vehicle burglaries and thefts and a common denominator is that they are unlocked and/or containing valuable in plain sight. Police were urging residents to lock their car doors, get their FOB keys out of range and hide or bring valuable inside.
