Rocky Hill Custodian Resigns After Controversy
Douglas Toft has resigned after it was revealed he lived rent-free and then at a reduced rate in town property.

A Rocky Hill custodian resigned after it was revealed that he had lived in town-owned property rent-free and then at a reduce rate for 34 months.
Douglas Toft, a part-time custodian for the town, stepped down last week and was asked to vacate the town-owned property known as the Kennedy House by the end of the month, NBC Connecticut reports. Toft lived there since 2011.
The property was meant to be temporary housing for people while they got their lives together. Toft lived rent-free for his first lease and then paid $500 a month for his second lease. The town paid utilities, according to NBC.

Former town manager Barbara Gilbert arranged housing and employment for Toft, according to town officials. Her signature is one one of the leases.
