Suspects Sought After Nearly Running Over Police: Rocky Hill PD

The suspects — wanted on prior warrants from other departments — fled Rocky Hill police after they were spotted at a local gas station.

ROCKY HILL, CT — Local police are on the lookout for two wanted suspects who nearly hit two Rocky Hill police officers with a vehicle Wednesday as they fled being taken into custody.

According to the Rocky Hill PD, an officer on patrol noticed a white Jeep Cherokee with New Hampshire plates at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the officer realized it was a vehicle being operated by a suspect with active arrest warrants from other departments.

It was parked at the Shell gas station at 1380 Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill and, when the officer approached, he encountered a male operator and female passenger, police said.

The RHPD said the couple was ordered to get out, resulting in the suspects resisting arrest and struggling with police.

"A Taser was deployed during the confrontation, but proved ineffective allowing the operator to shift the vehicle into drive and accelerate as he fled, nearly striking police officers," wrote the RHPD in a statement.

Police said the vehicle sped onto Interstate 91 South, with the RHPD describing the Jeep to other police departments.

That vehicle was eventually located unoccupied at 680 Cromwell Ave. in Rocky Hill in a hotel parking lot, according to police.

The RHPD said witnesses there claimed the suspects entered the hotel, which was searched with the help of two police dog K-9 teams.

Police also searched the surrounding area with the help of the Rocky Hill Fire Department, which was utilizing a thermal imaging drone.

No one was found and police believe the suspects never went into the hotel.

Police, though, said they know who the suspects are and will release their identities once a judge unseals court documents.

"This remains an active and dynamic investigation with no apparent threat to public safety," wrote the RHPD. "No injuries to any police officer have been reported in connection with this incident."

The RHPD thanked officers with the State Capitol, Amtrak, Wethersfield and Cromwell police departments, Connecticut State Police, and the Rocky Hill Fire Department for their help.
