Rocky Hill Father Knew Baby Died, Didn't Seek Help: State Police
State Police say the father drove around in his vehicle knowing that the baby died and he never sought medical attention.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A Rocky Hill father is accused of driving around with his one-month-old child in a car knowing that the baby wasn't breathing and that he never tried to get medical aid for the baby, State Police said. The baby was pronounced dead later on Saturday night, State Police said.
Divya B. Patel, 34, of Stonehill Drive, is charged with risk of injury to a child and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. He is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond. On Saturday night at 6:23 p.m. Rocky Hill Police received a distraught 911 call from a mother stating that her one-month-old child was not breathing, State Police said. The mother said the baby was with the father in a vehicle parked at the Residence Inn at 680 Cromwell Avenue, State Police said.
When officers arrived they found the mother but not the father or the baby, and the mother told police that the child's father had left with the child in his vehicle, State Police said. The father was contacted via cell phone but was uncooperative in disclosing his location, and as a result, cell phone GPS information was recovered and showed the father to be traveling through the Glastonbury and Rocky Hill areas, State Police said.

After 30 minutes, the father returned to the inn and officers found the child unresponsive in the vehicle, State Police said. Officers immediately began rendering aid to the child who was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, State Police said.
State Police said the father was aware that the child had died and did not render aid or seek emergency care, State Police said. In addition, the father was uncooperative and elusive when officers contacted him in an attempt to determine his location and render aid, State Police said.

The baby is identified as Ayaan Patel, who was born on Oct. 19, 2017, State Police said.

Original story: ROCKY HILL, CT — State Police are investigating a suspicious death at a local hotel. Early Saturday evening the Rocky Hill Police Department responded to the Residence Inn Hartford Rocky Hill at 680 Cromwell Ave. for a medical assist.
Upon the arrival of Rocky Hill Police Department, one person (age/sex was not provided at this time) was discovered deceased, State Police said.
Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime detectives responded to the scene to assist Rocky Hill Police. During the course of the investigation the State’s Attorney’s Office requested Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime detectives assume the investigation, State Police said.
This suspicious death remains under investigation. There is no threat to public or community, State Police said.
