Pet Care Business Among 64 New Businesses Registered In Shelton-Derby In August (patch.com) — Shelton saw 51 new business registrations in August, part of 64 combined with Derby, highlighting strong local economic activity. Real estate and holding companies dominated the list, but new options like a pet care business, a limited-service restaurant, and a liquor store also registered, signaling fresh services for residents.
2. West Nile virus detected in mosquitoes in Shelton, days after first human case (ctpost.com) — West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes trapped near Shelton Avenue, prompting local health officials to urge residents to protect themselves. Shelton joins several Connecticut towns with infected mosquitoes, and residents are advised to use repellent, avoid dusk and dawn exposure, and remove standing water around homes to reduce breeding sites and lower risk.
3. Connecticut football stars share an unusual bond: One is the other's godfather (sheltonherald.com) — Two standout St. Joseph High football players from Shelton, Finn Kilmartin and his godfather Will Zaccagnino, share a rare bond that began when Kilmartin converted to Catholicism. Their close relationship, rooted in faith and years in Shelton youth football, now fuels their leadership on a title-contending team as they head into their senior season and college careers.
4. CT companies have 80,000 jobs open: Electric Boat, Amazon, Walmart and more are hiring (nhregister.com) — Shelton residents working in manufacturing or engineering may find new opportunities as Sikorsky's parent company, Lockheed Martin, lists more than 100 Connecticut openings, including at its Shelton facility. They're part of roughly 80,000 jobs available statewide, with major employers like Electric Boat, hospitals, retailers, utilities, and banks all actively recruiting across a wide range of skills and experience levels.
5. Fentanyl, cocaine seized from 'stash house' in Bridgeport, police say (nhregister.com) — Police and federal agents seized large quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana from a suspected stash house in Bridgeport, and also searched two locations in Shelton where nothing was found. No arrests have been made yet, but authorities say they are expected and the case will likely move to federal investigators. Shelton residents may see continued law enforcement activity tied to this probe.
