SHELTON, CT — A new American-style restaurant has received zoning approval to open in a familiar Shelton dining spot that previously housed Vazzy's Cucina and Torito Mexican Restaurant.
The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved plans for South & Westie Kitchen & Bar at its Oct. 14 meeting, according to the Connecticut Post.
The restaurant is planned for 706 Bridgeport Ave., Building 5, Suite 101, at The Center at Split Rock, according to an application and architectural plans submitted to the city.
The space was previously home to Vazzy's Cucina, an Italian restaurant, and Torito Mexican Restaurant.
The application, submitted by Jasson Arias in July, includes plans to expand the restaurant's outdoor dining patio into an existing parking area.
Architectural drawings also show a dining room with booth and table seating, a bar area and a redesigned exterior with updated signage and lighting.
The restaurant is planned for The Center at Split Rock, a shopping development along Bridgeport Avenue that includes Outback Steakhouse, Walgreens and other businesses.
An opening date, menu and operating hours for South & Westie Kitchen & Bar have not been announced in the available city documents.
