
Wayne Travers Jr., a former journalist and a communications industry veteran, has joined the staff of Chris Meek for Congress. Meek is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes in the Fourth Congressional District.
He will serve as a communications consultant and staff writer for the campaign and his duties will include print and broadcast media outreach, drafting and distributing news releases and management of the campaign's
social media efforts, including Facebook and Twitter.
Travers served as managing editor of Westport News in the 1990s and worked at several Fairfield County newspapers, including the Fairfield Citizen-News, Monroe Courier, Huntington Herald and Bridgeport News. He has
worked in the public relations and corporate communications industries since 2001.
In addition to his journalism and communications background, Travers has political campaign experience, having worked on Republican candidate Tom
Scott's 1990 and 1992 Congressional campaigns in Connecticut's Third Congressional District. In 1994, he was the Republican candidate for the 93rd House District for the Connecticut General Assembly.
He earned a bachelor of science degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Bridgeport and is currently completing his master of arts degree in communications at Sacred Heart University.
Travers resides in Shelton with his wife, Eileen.
