NBC Connecticut reports DiGiovanni told the publication in October he had entered the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 after attending then-President Donald Trump's nearby "Stop the Steal" rally. He was not an alderman at that time but was later elected to the position and is now running for mayor.
DiGiovanni, a Republican, currently serves on the Board of Aldermen representing the city's second ward and is also a member of the city's Planning and Zoning board.
