Dog Shot In Derby Finds Happy New Home, Given New Name

Thunda, a German Shepherd shot multiple times in Derby earlier this year, has found a happy new home and even been given a new name.

DERBY, CT — Thunda, a German Shepherd shot multiple times in Derby earlier this year, has found a new home and been given a new name, according to the Shelton Animal Shelter.

A post on the shelter's Facebook page Thursday announced Thunda was recently adopted by husband and wife Dan and Victoria Loris, the former a Fairfield police officer and the latter a member of the Shelton Police Department.

The dog was previously in the care of the VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton, whose staff came up with his new name: Sheriff.

"He has a new lease on life and many adventures to experience with his doggie brother, Austin," the post reads. "Sheriff has adjusted very well with only having three legs and runs, plays and swims. He can be clumsy at times but is such a good boy."

News of Sheriff's adoption should bring joy to those who have followed his heartbreaking story. On April 1, Sheriff was found in Coon Hollow Park by police with multiple gunshot wounds.

Two people believed to be the dog's previous owners were later arrested in connection with the shooting, according to police.

After months of healing and having his leg amputated, the Loris family was happy to bring Sheriff home with them, where he "will never have to want or worry about anything," according to the Shelter.

"This story touched so many hearts, and we cannot thank everyone for the kindness and donations to help Sheriff get the proper care," the post reads. "We at the shelter look at this and say his life starts now, and there is no looking back."
