Expensive Forensic Audit Considered for Ansonia Tax Office Investigation: Report

Mayor David Cassetti recently asked local police to look into possible irregularities in the office.

ANSONIA, CT — City officials are considering adding an expensive forensic audit to the investigation of possible irregularities in the Ansonia Tax Office, reports the Connecticut Post.

Mayor David Cassetti recently asked local police to investigate the office, and the Board of Alderman this week voted to allow a forensic audit team to probe the office, too, if necessary. Such audits can easily cost upwards of $350 an hour, according to the publication.

The investigation was launched with $700 turned up missing one day only to re-emerge later. As a result, Ansonia Tax Collector has been placed on paid administrative leave, although she has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
