No Action on Shelton Education Budget

No action was taken due to a disagreement between Democrat and Republican members of the Board of A&T.

The Republican and Democrat members of the board disagreed on how much to give the schools, the paper reports. The Republicans wanted to give the Board of Education an increase of $1.5 million while the Democrats wanted to give the BOE a $3.25 million increase.

The BOE has requested a $4.2 million increase.

According to the paper, chairman of the A&T, Charlotte Madar said she was concerned that any new money added to the budget would have to be matched in future years. She added that the board would get everything they need.

$200,000 was added to the municipal side of the budget.

Mayor Mark Lauretti has proposed a $120.69 million budget with no tax increase where overall spending would increase by 1.7 percent while BOE spending would increase by 2.2 percent, the paper reports.
