📰 News we're reading

1. Shelton Home With 'Unique Floor Plan' Listed For Sale (patch.com) — A custom architect-designed Colonial on Jordan Avenue in Shelton has hit the market for $729,000, offering a distinctive layout that balances openness with cozy spaces. The one-owner home is highlighted as a non-cookie-cutter option, tailored for flexible modern living and appealing to buyers seeking something unique in Shelton's housing market.

2. CT home with 'significant hoarding conditions' deemed uninhabitable following fire (courant.com) — A Sunday morning fire left a Day Break Lane home in Shelton uninhabitable and forced firefighters to navigate severe hoarding conditions while searching for anyone inside. About 35 firefighters, including mutual aid from nearby towns, brought the blaze under control without injuries, and the Shelton Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the cause while the displaced occupants stay with neighbors.

3. DCP issues cease-and-desist to Phire in the Hole sauce company (newbritainherald.com) — Shelton shoppers who visit Beardsley's Cider Mill & Orchard should check their cupboards for Phire in the Hole hot sauces sold there between November 2025 and August 17, 2026. State officials ordered the Monroe-based company to stop selling the products over botulism concerns, embargoed remaining stock at the orchard, and urge anyone with symptoms like weakness or trouble swallowing to seek immediate care.

4. Decree of Establishment of the Saint Lazarus Guild and Promulgation of its Statutes (bridgeportdiocese.org) — A new Saint Lazarus Guild has been formally established by Bishop Frank Caggiano, with the diocesan center based at the Catholic Center in Shelton. The guild will focus on prayers for the deceased buried in diocesan cemeteries and support for their families, operating under statutes now officially promulgated for the Diocese of Bridgeport.

5. St. Vincent's kicks off annual House of Hope Food Drive (wtnh.com) — Shelton food pantries will directly benefit from St. Vincent's long-running House of Hope Food Drive, which is already underway and accepting donations 24/7 through mid-November. Organizers are asking for nutritious, non-perishable items to help neighbors facing high food insecurity, especially as inflation and benefit cuts make it harder for families to afford healthier choices.
