Professional Shelton Poker Player Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion

SHELTON, CT — A Shelton business owner and professional poker player pleaded guilted in U.S. District Court to tax evasion Thursday.

Guy Smith, 62, owners Centerline Interiors, a commercial interior construction business. He is also a professional poker play who plays in Connecticut and other states, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

Smith failed to report around $482,000 in income from Centerline Interiors on his 2012 through 2016 tax returns, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. He also didn't report his gambling winnings of more than $1 million to the IRS.

He owes more than $821,000 in taxes to the IRS. Smith agreed to pay the IRS all his outstanding taxes, plus interest and penalties as part of a plea agreement. He faces up to five years in prison when sentenced.
