Proposed Shelton Speakeasy Goes To Court After Denial
Hus was set to open on Bridgeport Avenue, but the Planning and Zoning Commission denied the business application.
SHELTON, CT — The owner of a proposed speakeasy-style bar is taking the case to court after the Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission denied her proposal.
Hush obtained a liquor license for its proposed 303 Bridgeport Ave. location, but the Planning and Zoning Commission denied the application, noting that so-called "speakeasies" are prohibited in Shelton, according to the Shelton Herald.
But lawyers for the proposed business contend that commissioners bowed to public pressure after worry that it would essentially be a gentleman's club. The owner contends it will be a 1920's-themed bar complete with waitresses dressed as flappers.
