Shelton Chef Hired at Newly Opened Rocky Hill Market
Sherwani Super-mart in Rocky Hill held its grand opening. Its owner hopes more exposure will help bring in business.

Malik Sherwani wants people to know that the Sherwani Super-mart is open for business and he is ready to serve the community of Rocky Hill.
"I am excited," Sherwani said about his new business.
However, the Sherwani Super-mart has been open for two months and only a few customers have shopped at the store, Sherwani said. He added that his space located at 2409 Main St. has been vacant for so long people do not realize he is open.

"I need your help," he told the Chamber of Commerce members and town officials who attended his grand opening Friday morning.
Sherwani has applied for a special permit to prepare and sell food at his store. A public hearing on the permit has been scheduled for the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Oct. 19.

Once Sherwani receives his permit, he has hired retired chef Mike Legge to prepare the soups, salads and sandwiches for the deli. Legge has previously worked at Foxwoods Casino and Danny O's Downtown in Shelton.
"I can't do the commercial workflow anymore," Legge said. "This will keep me busy."
The store currently sells fresh fruits and vegetables and general groceries as well as Italian, Indian and Pakistani foods and products.
The Sherwani Super-Mart is open seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. - 10 p.m.
