Shelton City, BOE Fight Over Deficit Continues

Mayor Mark Lauretti warned the two parties could end up in court again.

SHELTON, CT — The city and Board of Education could end up in another court battle over a school budget deficit.

A policy committee was formed to look into how the deficits occurred, according to the Shelton Herald.

Mayor Mark Lauretti said the two parties could end up in court if the Board of Education isn't reasonable. Some school board officials say there are errors in an audit report.

Much of the deficit came from a $2.77 million in the state excess cost-grant program where some revenue gets reimbursed by the state to help subsidize high special education costs.

The last time the city and Board of Education went to court was over a school bus contract.
