Shelton-Derby Bridge Renovation Public Meeting
Residents can learn more about the coming bridge upgrades.

SHELTON, CT — A public meeting will be held where residents can learn more about renovations to the Derby-Shelton bridge that connects the towns over the Housatonic River.
The meeting will take place April 18 at 6 p.m. at the Shelton City Hall auditorium and is being hosted by the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments . The project is under NVCOG contract and construciton will be administrated by the state Department of Transportation.
“The April 18 public information meeting will provide the Derby-Shelton community extensive information on the proposed bridge renovations,” said Mark Nielsen, NVCOG Director of Planning. “It will also allow residents and stakeholders an opportunity to provide input and comments on the project before it enters the final design phase.”

Roadway improvements will be made on the bridge that will allow for a wider sidewalk on the south side of the bridge along with a bi-directional bicycle lane.
Existing lighting will be removed and replaced with modern lighting. Bridge parapet walls will be replaced and decorative railings similar to railings in Veteran's Memorial Park will be installed.

Design work should be completed in early 2019 and construction is expected to start the following summer. There will be no reduction in roadway capacity.
