Shelton Fire Prevention Poster Contest Winners Announced

Two Shelton students received a $125 prize, a certificate and a medal for their posters designed to raise awareness for fire prevention.

The two top winners of the annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest were announced Tuesday at an awards ceremony, according to a news release.

Selin Ho, a fifth-grader at Perry Hill School and Griffin Marcinczyk, a fourth-grader at Elizabeth Shelton School both won and received a $125 prize, a certificate and a medal. Both are now eligible to compete in the statewide contest.

The awards ceremony was held Tuesday at Shelton Intermediate School. It began in 1984 and was created to develop fire safety awareness for children and families. The contest is jointly sponsored by Connecticut FAIR Plan, the Connecticut Fire Marshals’ Association, Connecticut Board of Education and the Office of State Fire Marshal.

The 6th Grade Essay/PSA contest began in 1996 with the purpose of promoting fire safety. Judging of boht the essay and poster contests was held December 16, 2015 in conjunction with the Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest for 4th and 5th grade students.

Mayor Lauretti presented cash awards and certificates to winners of the Sixth Grade Essay/Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. Classrooms, and each student author, will receive a cash award of $100, $75, and $50 for first, second, and third place, respectively.

Overall City of Shelton winners are as follows:

  • 4th Grade - Griffin Marcinczyk of Elizabeth Shelton School
  • 5th Grade - Selin Ho of Perry Hill School
