A fundraiser has been launched to aid the family of a Shelton High School graduate who died unexpectedly while studying abroad in Spain.

SHELTON, CT — A fundraiser has been launched to aid the family of a Shelton High School graduate who died unexpectedly while studying abroad in Spain.

A GoFundMe page established over the weekend announced "the tragic passing" of Aidan O'Grady, a student at North Carolina State University who recently began a semester studying abroad in Spain.

O'Grady graduated from Shelton High in 2023, where he had been involved in varsity soccer and indoor and outdoor varsity track and field among other activities, according to his LinkedIn profile.

"[Aidan's] loss was sudden and unexpected," the GoFundMe page's description reads, "and it has left his family and all of us who knew him heartbroken...Aidan was a young man with his whole life ahead of him."

The fundraiser describes O'Grady as a young man who was "known for his warm smile, kindness and his love for adventure" who made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

"During this incredibly difficult time, please consider donating to help with unforeseen expenses and other immediate needs," the GoFundMe description reads. "We are raising funds to help ease the financial burden so the family can focus on grieving, healing and honoring Aidan's life."

As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $26,000 toward a $40,000 goal after receiving over 380 donations.
