Shelton Homeowner Catches Accused Burglar in the Act

Shelton police apprehended the 21-year-old woman who attempted to outrun police.

Shelton police say around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday they received a complaint from Cots Street residents that there was an unwelcome female inside their house, police said in a press release.

The female fled on foot after a brief discussion and the police were then called.

Detective Richard Bango arrived on scene and saw a female running in a wooded area, the release states. The female initially did not comply with commands to stop, but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit., police said

Chelsea Hitzler, 21 of Shelton, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, and Interfering with an officer.

Hitzler will appear at Derby Court today (1-14-15). Police later discovered Hitzler had a warrant and she was additionally arrested for violation of probation. Hitzler was being held on a $7,500 bond for both arrests.
