Shelton Likely Reducing Teacher Positions

A number of teachers are retiring or leaving the district at the end of the school year.

SHELTON, CT — It is likely that not all teacher positions will be filled for the next school year due to budget constraints.

A dozen teachers are retiring or leaving the district at the end of the school year and at least eight positions will be cut as part of the budget proposal, according to the Shelton Herald. The Board of Education requested nearly $2 million in additional funds, but its request was reduced to $1 million by the city.

Mohegan School Principal Ellen Tuckner is taking an elementary school principal job in Ridgefield, according to the Connecticut Post. Current Long Hill School principal Kristen Santilli will take her place. The Long Hill principal position will be filled over the summer.
