Shelton National Rallies To Defeat Berlin, 7-6

Erases a 6-5 deficit entering the top of the sixth to improve to 2-0 in the section one tournament

After its opener in the section one tournament against North Stamford was stopped after four innings because of the mercy rule, Shelton National needed to come from behind on Saturday against Berlin.

Alex Kirk and Ryan Smith delivered RBI singles with two outs in the top of the sixth inning as Shelton National rallied for a 7-6 victory.

Shelton National, which routed North Stamford 12-0 on Thursday, matched Fairfield American with 2-0 records atop the standings. Fairfield American defeated North Stamford 10-5 in Saturday's game.

Shelton National and Fairfield American can clinch berths in the sectional championship game with wins on Sunday in Orange. Fairfield National takes on Berlin (0-3) at 3:30 and Shelton National faces East Haven (1-1 at 6 p.m.). East Haven had a bye on Saturday.

Saturday's contest was a back-and-forth affair as Shelton National maintained a 5-4 lead after three innings. But Berlin scored twice in the fourth and took a 6-5 lead on Jake Losielle's home run.

Shelton National improved to 7-0 in the postseason, having gone 5-0 in winning the district three title.

The last time Shelton National won a district crown it advanced all the way to the Little League World Series in 2008.

Wins by Fairfield American and Shelton National on Sunday would create an interesting scenario. The teams would face each on Monday in their pool play finales in what would essentially become a meaningless game since each would be locked into Wednesday's championship contest.
