Shelton Opts to Forfeit Basketball Tournament Game
The loss of a senior player in a tragic car accident Sunday has prompted the grieving team to decide not to play.

SHELTON, CT - Following the tragic loss of center Eddy Conklin in an automobile accident Sunday morning, the Shelton High School basketball team has decided to forfeit its first-round Class LL matchup.
The CIAC announced the forfeit on Twitter Thursday afternoon; the 25th-seeded Gaels were to travel to Waterbury Tuesday for an opening round contest against No. 8 Crosby.
Conklin, a 6-foot-6 senior, was killed early Sunday morning in a single-car rollover crash on Bridgeport Avenue. He was 17.

Calling hours for Conklin will be held Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Burial will be private in Lawn Cemetery in the spring.
At the request of his family, contributions in lieu of flowers are requested to The Eddy Conklin Scholarship Fund to benefit students at Shelton High School, ℅ 120 Meadow Street, Shelton, CT 06484.
