Shelton's Pat Gillen will compete in the high school national wrestling championships, which takes place this wekend in Virginia Beach, Va. Action in the senior divisin begins Friday moring at 9.
The Virginia-bound Gillen, who wrestles in the 215-pound division, needs to win just one match to set a state record for most career victories.

He tied the state mark of 200 wins, set by Ledyard's T.J. Hepburn from 2004-07 , by capturing his second straight title in the New England championships earlier this month.
Gillen is 49-0 this season, also winning the Class LL and state Open crowns.

Last year in the junior division, he finished seventh in the nationals, losing to the 215-pound national champ, Joe Stolfi of Pennsylvania, 5-3.
