Williams, Minotti Lead Caliente Past Downtown Danny O's

Dana Williams and Jess Minotti had three hits apiece to lead Caliente to a 9-6 win over Downtown Danny O’s Wednesday, Aug. 24 in a Shelton Women’s Softball League game at Shelton High.

Mary Piccirillo played outstanding defense at first base for Caliente, who is 7-3 and two games behind first place Porky’s (9-1). Porky’s lost for the first time this season to Mario’s by the score of 4-2

The Shelton football team will be tested in the preseason as two of its three scrimmages are against reigning state champions.

The first is on Wednesday, when the Gaels take on reigning Class L state champion Masuk and UConn-bound quarterback Casey Cochran. Masuk was voted the No. 1 team in the state last season.

Originally schedule for Finn Stadium at 6 p.m., the scrimmage will be played at Masuk and has been moved up to 5 p.m.

Next up is a battle against two-time Class S state champion St. Joseph in Trumbull on Saturday at 10 p.m.

Shelton concludes its preseason slate on Sept 8. at home against Valley rival Ansonia.

The Gaels open the regular season on Sept. 16 at Wilbur Cross at 4 p.m.

Before beginning defense of its CIAC Class LL state championship, the first in school history, the Shelton girls soccer team has four preseason scrimmages lined up.

The first is on Wednesday, when the Gaels visit Pomperaug (5:15 p.m). On Saturday, Shelton hosts its annual jamboree starting at 8 p.m.

Next week, Shelton has scrimmages at Naugatuck on Thursday at New Canaan in Saturday.

The Gaels open the regular season under the light at Hand on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
