Shelton Scores And Standings: Dec. 22

Shelton's will face his former team on Thursday when the Indianapolis Colts take on the playoff-bound Houston Texans.

Last week, Orlovsky earned his first career win in 10 starts as the Colts defeated the Tennessee Titans 27-13 to avoid becoming the second team in NFL history to go 0-16.

Orlovsky was released by the Titans in the summer, then was signed by the Colts as insurance following Peyton Manning's neck surgery.

While in Houston, the former University of Connecticut standout became close friends with Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, who is out for the season.

"Honestly, (I'm) almost like physically sick for him," Orlovsky told the Houston Chronicle. "Matt and I -- I consider him to be one of my best friends. We spent a lot of time together and a lot of that time was in that facility. I know the kind of work ethic he has. I know the time he puts in. I know what he's been through. I felt sick for him just because I know he's a big reason why they are where they are and I would love for him to be able to experience it as a player."

During the lockout, Orlovsky worked out with rookie T.J. Yates, who is now the Texans' starter.

"He's an easily likeable guy," Orlovsky said. "I think he kind of understood that he was going to go in and kind of earn his stripes, which he obviously has done. As a player, you could tell he was talented. He had that sense from him that he was just probably a good football player."

Even though Houston released Orlovsky, Texans coach Gary Kubiak still thinks highly of him.

"You know, we're happy for Dan," Kubiak said. "Dan worked really hard for us. He's really a great guy. Our team really thought a lot of him, so I'm happy that he's found an opportunity there and did a heck of a job there last week."

Aaron Liu scored three goals Wednesday as the Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team defeated Lyman Hall 6-1 at the Northford Ice Pavilion.

The Wreckers peppered Lyman Hall goalies Kenny Cairns and Steve Esposito with 58 shots.

The Wreckers, who improved to 2-0, are back in action on Friday against Watertown-Pomperaug at 5 p.m. at the Taft School.

The Shelton girls basketball team hosts Lyman HalL on Thursday (7 p.m.).

The Gaelettes slipped to 1-3 following Tuesday's 57-48 loss to undefeated West Haven.

Lyman Hall enters the contest at 0-4 following a 70-39 drubbing to Mercy on Tuesday.

The Shelton boys team is on the road at Cheshire in another 7 p.m. start.

The Gaels (1-2) are coming off a 69-48 loss to Fairfield Prep (3-0) on Tuesday.
