Shelton Scores And Standings: Feb. 2

The girls basketball team missed a chance to clinch a state tournament berth Wednesday, suffering a 68-59 loss to West Haven.

Lauren McCone scored 20 points to lead the Gaelettes, who dropped to 7-8. Nicole Beard scored 11 and Kelsey Pendagast added 10 for Shelton.

Jayva Johnson was unstoppable for West Haven (13-4), pouring in 30 points.

Still, Shelton held a 16-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Blue Devils outscored the Gaelettes to 21-11 in the second period to take a 35-27 halftime margin.

Shelton pulled within 45-38 after three quarters, but West Haven held on by outscoring the Gaelettes 23-21 over the final eight minutes.
