Shelton's Jame Tate has another reason to smile.

Tate, who received national attention when he was originally barred from attending his prom, helped lead the Shelton golf team to the Southern Connecticut Conference championship on Tuesday.

The senior earned medalist honors with a 4-over par 76 at the Race Brook Country Club in Orange as the Gaels (317) posted a whopping 15-shot victory over runner-up Amity.

Notre Dame of West Haven (333) and Fairfield Prep (334) finished third and fourth, respectively.

The 18-year-old Tate and two friends were banned from the prom after posting a message on the school building on May 6 asking Sonali Rordigues to be his date.

Facing mounting pressure, Shelton officials later reversed their decision, allowing Tate to attend the prom which is set for Saturday.
