Shelton Scores and Standings, Nov 10

Seeded fourth, the Shelton girls soccer team begins defense of its CIAC Class LL state title on Thursday when the Gaelettes (14-2-3) host Fairfield Ludlowe (6-9-1) in a first-round contest at 6 p.m.

If Shelton advances, it could face another FCIAC foe in the second round as the Gaelettes would take on the Staples-New Milford winner in the second round on Saturday. As the higher seed, Shelton also would host that game.

Thursday's contest is a rematch of last year's Class LL semifinal, a 3-2 Shelton victory.

The Gaelettes defeated three FCIAC teams a year ago en route to the school's first girls soccer state championship. They blanked Ridgefield (2-0) in the quarterfinals, then dethroned reigning state champion Westhill 1-0 in the finals.

Shelton is coming off a 1-0 loss to Cheshire in the Southern Connecticut Conference championship game.

The 21st-seeded Shelton's boys soccer team (8-5-3) visits No. 12 Cheshire in the first round of the Class LL tournament on Friday (2 p.m.) with a possible trip to No. 2 seed Norwich Free Academy awaiting the winner on Monday.

The Shelton girls volleyball team (15-3) is seeded seventh and earned a bye in the first round. The Gaelettes take on the Bristol Eastern-Manchester winner on Saturday at 7 p.m.
