Shelton Scores and Standings, Nov 11

Shelton is coming off a 20-13 victory over Fairfield Prep, holding on for the victory after building a 20-0 lead early in the third quarter. Frank Camerino rushed for 137 yards for the Gaels, who still have an outside chance to make the state playoffs, standing 12th in the Class LL rankings. Cheshire, normally a playoff contender, is enduring an up-and-down season, and dropped to 4-4 last week with a 28-7 loss at Notre Dame of West Haven. Angie Ferro and Jessica Hartmayer scored in each half as the Shelton girls soccer team opened defense of its Class LL state championship with a 2-0 win over No. 29 Fairfield Ludlowe on Thursday. On Saturday, the fourth-seeded Gaelettes (15-2-3), who rebounded from a 1-0 loss to Cheshire in the SCC final, will host No. 20 Staples. The Wreckers upset No. 13 New Milford 3-1 Thursday. Kickoff for the second-round contest is 2 p.m. It will be Shelton's fifth FCIAC opponent in its last six state tournament games. The Gaelettes defeated three FCIAC foes en route to the title last year, including a 1-0 win over Westhill in the final.
