The Shelton football team finished off an eight-win season Thursday, but it wasn't enough to get the Gaels into the Class LL state playoffs.
Frank Camerino rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown as the Gaels held on to defeat Derby 26-20 Thursday morning in the 101st meeting between the ancient rivals.

Shelton finished 8-2, but settled for 10th place in the final Class LL rankings.
A pair of 1-yard TD runs in the first quarter by Gary Thompson and Camerino's 5-yard TD in the second period staked the Gaels to a 20-0 lead.

But Derby (4-6) began its comeback on Ray Krieger's 62-yard TD pass to Dillon McMahon before the end of the half.
Shelton then extended its advantage to 26-6 on Connor Wallon's 7-yard TD toss to Joe Grand in the third quarter.
Before the period was over Krieger threw TD passes of 5 yards to Tim Adanti and 36 yards to Brian Dobek to pull the Red Raiders within six points.
However, the final quarter was scoreless, allowing the Gaels to post their ninth straight victory over Derby.
Krieger, a senior, had an impressive final game, completing 23-of-38 passes for 324 yards.
