The Shelton girls soccer team advanced to the Southern Connecticut Conference finals for the second straight year with a 1-0 victory over No. 3 seed Amity on Thursday.
Angie Ferro scored the game's only goal midway through the second half for the Gaelettes (14-1-3), who are the defending SCC and CIAC Class Ll state champions.

Shelton defeated its Housatonic Division rivals after the teams played to pair of 1-1 ties during the regular season.
In Thursday's other semifinal,Cheshire (12-4-2) defeated top-seeded Sacred Heart Academy in penalty kicks, 2-1 (3-0 penalty kicks).

The championship game is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. at East Haven.
In the SCC girls volleyball playoffs, Guilford defeated Shelton 3-1 (25-18, 11-25, 25-21, 27-25) in the semifinals. In the finals, the Indians will take on Cheshire, which swept Sheehan 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-9)
In the SCC swimming and diving meet, Shelton's Jessica Poole finished third in the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.92). She also was fifth in the women's 100-yard butterfly (1:03.22)
The Shelton football team will host Fairfield Prep on Friday (7 p.m.) at Finn Stadium in a battle of 5-2 teams.
The Gaels are coming off a 28-17 win over Amity while Fairfield Prep defeated Hamden, 28-14.
Frank Camerino rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns for Shelton while Dillon Ryan has gone over 200 yards in two games for Fairfield Prep since replacing Joe McBride, who went down with an MCL injury against Xavier.
The CIAC announcing Thursday it has postponed the start of its state tournaments to allow extra time for conferences to complete their own playoff tournaments.
State tournaments in soccer, field hockey, volleyball and swimming, scheduled to start on Monday, now will be begin Thursday. Pairings will be announced Wednesday.
Volleyball and field hockey state championship games now will take place Nov. 18-19. Girls and boys soccer championship games will be played the following weekend.
