The Shelton boys and girls soccer teams are in solid position in the playoff race in the Southern Connecticut Conference.

The boys currently are in first place in the Housatonic Division in the Southern Connecticut Conference with a 4-0 league mark and 6-2-1 overall record.

The girls squad, the defending CIAC Class LL state champion, is in second place in the Housatonic Division at 2-0-2 while sporting a 6-1-2 overall mark.

Both teams are in action on Monday. The boys play at Lyman Hall (3:45 p.m.) while the girls host Amity (3-0-1, 7-0-2) in a battle for first place and a possible SCC championship game preview. The contest gets under way at 7 p.m.

The Shelton football team (3-1) is 13th in the CIAC Class LL state rankings.  There are still nine unbeaten teams in the division. Just ahead of the Gaels are three one-loss clubs: No. 10 Greenwich (3-1), No. 11 Newtown (3-1) and No. 12 Ridgefield (3-1).  

The Gaels host Guilford (2-2) on Friday in advance of a battle with powerful Xavier on Oct. 21
