With the Indianapolis Colts in desperate straits and likely without Peyton Manning for the entire season, the team on Tuesday resigned Shelton's Dan Orlovsky.

The former UConn star was released by the Colts after spending training camp with them. This came after Orlovsky was let go by the Houston Texans.

Injuries forced the Colts (0-3) to add depth at quarterback before Monday night's game at Tampa Bay.

Manning, a four-time league MVP, has missed the first three games after having neck surgery Sept. 8. The recovery was expected to take at least two months and could keep him out the entire season, though the Colts are hoping he will return to practice in December.

Manning's replacement, Kerry Collins, missed some practice time last week with a sore throwing shoulder and left Sunday night's game against Pittsburgh with concussion-like symptoms.

The only other active quarterback on the roster is three-year veteran Curtis Painter, who beat out Orlovsky as the No. 3 quarterback.

The Colts' current backup quarterback is punter Pat McAfee, and team vice chairman Bill Polian told listeners to his weekly radio show Monday night that the Colts would not go into this week's game with only Painter and McAfee.

That would be Orlovsky, who was released in the Colts' final cutdown in September.

He was 25-of- 54 for 386 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions during the preseason. He also was sacked five times.

Painter is coming off his best game as a pro. He was 5 of 11 for 60 yards with no TDs and no interceptions, but lost one fumble on a sack.

Orlovsky has played in 13 NFL games with Detroit and Houston, starting seven times with the Lions in 2008. He's completed 150 of 272 career passes for 1,679 yards with eight TDs and eight interceptions.

Shelton Biddy & Cousy Basketball Registration

The Shelton Biddy & Cousy Basketball Program is a volunteer organization that sponsors a basketball program for boys living in the city of Shelton. Registration for its 2011-2012 Basketball Program will be held at the Shelton Community Center, 41 Church Street. Remaining dates:

Thursday, September 29, 6:00-8:30 pm

The Mitey Mite Program is an instructional basketball league for boys in grades 2-3. Teams play once or twice weekly.

The Biddy Basketball Program is a competitive basketball program for boys in grades 4-7. The program is made up of two divisions. The Junior Varsity League is for boys in grades 4-5; teams usually play twice a week. The Varsity League is for boys in grades 6-7; teams usually play two games weekly.

The Cousy Basketball Program is a competitive basketball program for boys in grades 8-12. The Junior Cousy League is for boys in grades 8-9; teams usually play two games weekly. The Senior Cousy League is for boys in grades 10-12; teams usually play two games weekly. The Cousy program begins in December.

Registration fees for the Mitey-Mite, Biddy and Junior Cousy Programs are: $70 - 1st child, $60 - 2nd child, $50 - each additional child Registration fee for the Senior Cousy League is $45. Make checks payable to: ‘Shelton Biddy Basketball’.

An adult must accompany all children and first time players need to bring their birth certificate. Program volunteers will be available to answer questions. Due to limited gym time, enrollment in each division will be limited. A late fee of $15 will be assessed for anyone signing up after the last scheduled registration date. No refunds will be given once the first game has been played in the player’s division.
