By virtue of a season-ending three-game winning streak, the has climbed to 10th in the CIAC Division II rankings.
Thirteen teams have qualified for the state tournament in the divsion, including Shelton (9-11), which made the jump after reaching the Division III final last year.

With wins over Division I schools Greenwich and Cheshire, Staples is ranked ahead of Newtown, even though the Nighthawks have a better overall record (11-8). Staples is 2-5 against Division I schools and Newtown 0-1.
Three other FCIAC teams are in the top 10: No. 3 Wilton (10-10), No. 5 Trumbull (11-9) and No. Fairfield Warde-Ludlowe (9-11).

The state tournament brackets with be released by the CIAC on Saturday.

Shelton girls soccer standout Jessica Hartmayer recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Marist College, where she will continue her soccer career.
Hartmayer, who played on the varsity team all four years at Shelton, registered 16 career goals and 21 assists in her career, which included the program's first state championship in 2010.
Marist won the MAAC championship last year, earning its first trip to the NCAA tournament in the program's history.
