The boys basketball team, which has made the Class LL state tournament for the first time in five years, will learn its first-round opponent on Wednesday when the brackets are pairings are released by the CIAC.
The Gaels (8-12) have doubled their win output from last year, clinching a postseason berth with a 44-41 victory over West Haven in their final regular-season game.
Shelton joins Conard as one of their two 8-12 teams to make the tournament. The Gaels will play either St. Joseph, Hillhouse or Hillhouse, who finished 20-0, in the first round.
