Suicidal Driver Who Killed Shelton Man In Wrong-Way Crash May Get More Freedom

Ling Xin Wu was acquitted by reason of insanity in 2014, claiming he heard voices from Jesus when he killed a 68-year-old Shelton man.

The Psychiatric Security Review Board is considering moving the driver of a wrong-way crash who claimed he was guided by voices. The man would be moved from maximum security to a less-restrictive ward of Middletown’s Connecticut Valley Hospital, according to the Hartford Courant.

Ling Xin Wu, 26, of Willamantic, was acquitted by reason of insanity in the suicidal wrong-way crash on Route 2 that killed Richard Sullivan, 68, of Shelton in 2012. The accident sent his wife Barbara Sullivan to the hospital for weeks of recovery. In September 2014, Wu was committed to Connecticut Valley Hospital for 35 years.

Wu claimed he crashed into the couple head on because he heard voices from Jesus telling him to save the world.

The Courant reported that Barbara Sullivan said she believes Wu is sorry for what he did and would benefit from psychiatric treatment. The Psychiatric Security Review Board is considering whether Wu would do best at a maximum security division, where he has been for two years, or at a less restrictive ward of the hospital.
