Wednesday Night's Domestic Violence Vigil in Shelton Moves Indoors Due to Rain

A candlelight vigil will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 6:30 pm at Huntington Congregational Church Fellowship Hall at 19 Church Street

The domestic violence vigil originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Huntington Green has been moved indoors to the Huntington Congregational Church due to the rain, according to Tracy Bruno, Communications Specialist with BH Care.

The vigil will honor the victims and support the survivors of domestic violence. An invocation will be given by Monsignor Weiss, St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, in recognition of law enforcement officials. He will also give a survivor testimony.

Ansonia, CT (September 2014) The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence affects all ages, races, socioeconomic, educational, religious, and occupational segments of our society. Every 9 seconds, a woman is battered in the U.S. One in four women and one in seven men in the U.S. are victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives.

In an effort to raise awareness about domestic violence, BHcare’s The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services will hold a vigil to honor and remember survivors and victims of domestic violence.

A candlelight vigil will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 6:30 pm at [Huntington Congregational Church] in Shelton, CT. A special welcome will be given by Mayor Mark Lauretti and Attorney Paul Garlinghouse will be the keynote speaker. The vigil will also include an invocation by Monsignor Weiss, St. Rose of Lima, recognition of law enforcement officials and a survivor testimony.
