Zoning Commission Grants Permit for Cat Adoption This Weekend

Commission also doles out various certificates for zoning compliance during its meeting this week.

Thinking of adopting a cat or kitten?

The purrfect place to do it will be on Saturday (Dec. 3), courtesy of the Stratford Cat Project.

The organization will host a cat and kitten adoption event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at , located at 350 Bridgeport Ave., across from Curtiss-Ryan Honda.

The Planning and Zoning Commission this week approved a permit to enable the organization to host the event at the pet store. Zoning officials said there is ample parking in the plaza. Several commissioners applauded the group for hosting the event.

The commission, also during its meeting this week, approved several other applications for certificates of zoning compliance, including four new businesses coming to the R.D. Scinto towers on Corporate, Research and Enterprise drives, to replace existing businesses.

Moving into 4 Corporate Dr., to replace Labcorp, will be Opti-Care, a retail/eyecare facility, which will lease a 900 sq. ft. space, and employ five people. At 2 Corporate Dr., Prudential will occupy a 25,985 sq. ft. space and employ 250 people, replacing G.E. Noresco Construction will take over the space occupied by Webloyalty at 5 Research Dr., leasing 9,870 sq. ft., with 36 employees. And at 2 Enterprise Dr., Two Labs Marketing will lease 4,181 sq. ft., with 10 employees, replacing Enterprise Suites.

Zoning officials were also pleased to report that there will be a new tenant for the second floor of the Ivy Brook Road facility, at 2 Ivy Brook Rd. Dekzon, LLC, will lease 2,225 sq. ft. for medical/office space.

And those in the market for a great bargain can make tracks to a new consignment/retail shop, dubbed Silver Racks, located 414 Howe Ave. The 600 sq. ft. space was formerly occupied by a children’s consignment shop, and will be open Monday through Saturday.

The commission also approved an upgrade for St. Joseph’s Church at 424 Coram Ave., which will feature the addition of an elevator. The elevator will provide access to all three levels of the church, as well as the church hall. The existing handicapped ramp will be demolished to make way for the elevator, which officials said will enable for easier transport of wheelchair-bound parishioners.
