Paul D. Thompson, MD, director of cardiology at Hartford Hospital, has been selected to deliver the first-ever Kenneth L. Baughman, MD, Memorial Lecture for the Brigham & Women’s Hospital’s Cardiovascular Symposium on May 4.
Thompson will lecture on “The Role of Exercise in Modern Cardiology.” This lecture is part of the Brigham & Women’s course titled “Cardiovascular Medicine: Update for the Practitioner,” which will be presented every other year.
Thompson’s lecture is in memory of Dr. Baughman, a beloved cardiologist and director of the Brigham’s Advanced Heart Failure Management Program until his tragic death during the 2009 American Heart Association Meeting. Dr. Baughman was also an accomplished triathlete and had previously been the director of cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital before joining the Brigham staff. Thompson was chosen as the inaugural Baughman lecturer in recognition of his achievements as a leading sports cardiologist and his advocacy for the public health benefits of regular physical activity.
