SIMSBURY, CT — Residents will have two opportunities Saturday to safely dispose of sensitive documents and household hazardous waste during free community events hosted by the Town of Simsbury.
The Simsbury Police Department will sponsor a public shredding event for Simsbury residents from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Simsbury Town Hall, 933 Hopmeadow St.
Participants must provide proof of Simsbury residency and are limited to two copier paper-sized boxes or two grocery-sized shopping bags of documents for shredding.
Organizers are also encouraging attendees to support the Simsbury Food Pantry by bringing donations.
The pantry's most-needed items include coffee, tea, juice, granola bars, snack foods, meal kits and toilet paper.
Earlier in the day, the town's annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Works campus, 66 Town Forest Road in West Simsbury.
In addition to accepting household hazardous waste, the event will also offer document shredding services.
Residents of Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby and Suffield may participate free of charge.
Attendees must provide proof of residency and remain in their vehicles during the collection process.
Town officials are asking participants to access Town Forest Road from Stratton Brook Road to help manage traffic flow.
Residents using the hazardous waste collection event may bring up to two copier paper-sized boxes of documents for shredding.
A list of accepted hazardous waste materials is available on the Simsbury Department of Public Works webpage.
