MAPLE TREE CAFÉ & THE IRON FROG TAVERN FUNDRAISERS TO BENEFIT SIMSBURY LAND TRUST

Two Simsbury nightspots, along with two local bands, are holding fundraisers to benefit the Simsbury Land Trust and its efforts to protect the town’s scenic landscapes. The first event will take place on July 29 and the other will be on August 25.

On Sunday, July 29 at 6 p.m., the Maple Tree Café will host a “Simsbury Land Trust Social & Fundraiser”, featuring LittleHouse, a country/rock band led by West Simsbury resident Joe Patrina, who is a Simsbury Land Trust member and longtime supporter. The Maple Tree Café is located at 781 Hopmeadow St. (Route 10) in Simsbury’s historic district.

Admission ticket donations at the door will be $10 per person. Advance ticket donations are $5, and are available by contacting Amy Zeiner, Executive Director of the Simsbury Land Trust at (860) 651-8773 or emailing azeiner@simsburylandtrust.org. LittleHouse will be donating all proceeds from their performance that night to the Simsbury Land Trust.

Then, on Saturday, August 25 at 9 p.m., The Iron Frog Tavern will host a fundraiser with live music by Out the Boxx, an R&B-old school-funk band. The event will benefit both the Simsbury Land Trust and the Simsbury Grange. Out the Boxx features Dave Galt of Simsbury, who is a member of both of the local nonprofit organizations. The Iron Frog Tavern is located at 6 Wilcox Street (just off Hopmeadow St.) in the center of Simsbury.

In a fun twist, The Iron Frog Tavern’s event will feature a “Reverse Happy Hour” with drink discounts starting at 11 p.m. Admission is free and the bar will donate a percentage of all purchases during the evening to the organizations. In addition, Out the Boxx will contribute a portion of its fee that night to the two groups. Reservations are not required.

The Simsbury Land Trust works to protect scenic vistas, geological features and farmland that visually define Simsbury’s character and provide healthy habitats for local wildlife and plants. Its goal is to develop, support and implement creative land conservation solutions for the benefit of present and future generations. Since its establishment in 1976, the not-for-profit organization has permanently protected 31 parcels of property in the town, totaling nearly 967 acres, more than half of which have been donated to the Simsbury Land Trust.
