Simsbury Youth Football Trojans 4th Graders Win Shoreline Conference Championship

Conference Champions!!!  The words every youth football player wants to hear.  This title can now describe Simsbury’s 4th grade youth football team, The Simsbury Youth Football Trojans.  On Sunday November 18, 2012, the Trojans, behind a power running game that totaled 258 yards rushing, a timely passing game and a dominant defense, defeated previously unbeaten North Branford 33 to 19.  Earlier in the playoffs the Trojans avenged their only two regular season losses by defeating   Manchester and Southington in consecutive games.

The Trojans running attack sometimes relied on power and sometimes on speed, but provided consistent ground gains all season long.  The Trojans also utilized arguably the Conference’s best passing attack to increase the offense’s potency.  Not to be outdone, the Trojans defense ranked first in the regular season in scoring defense and continued this stingy trend into the post season.

In the Championship game Simsbury jumped out to leads twice only to see a fine North Branford team fight back to tie the game.  North Branford briefly took the lead in the second quarter before Simsbury again scored to take a 20 to 19 lead into the half.  Simsbury’s defense stiffened the rest of the way to hold powerful North Branford to 14 total offensive yards in the second half, while the Trojan offense added two additional touchdowns for the only scoring in the second half.
