SIMSBURY, CT — When the Simsbury Police Department put out a hysterical video last August about children returning to school, one of the stars was longtime school resource officer Todd Kushman.

Sadly for the schools, but good news for him, Kushman has been promoted to sergeant after 17 years on the force, 10 as a school resource officer for the elementary and middle schools.

This week, Kushman was honored by students and school staff, according to WFSB Channel 3, in a poignant ceremony where the school community said "goodbye" and "congratulations" at the same time.

Though bittersweet, the move means Kushman will no longer be the presence he has been in the schools as before.

That will be somebody else's domain.

Kushman's new role is as a department administrator, supervising police officers throughout the force.
