Film Premiere: Beaver Family Life

On Friday December 5th the Simsbury Grange will premiere the latest film by New England Forests: “Beaver Family Life.” An informal social hour begins at 6 pm and the one-hour film begins at 7 pm. The filmmaker will host a Q & A following the film. 

The Grange featured the full 5-part docuseries "Beaver Pond Wildlife" throughout 2025 and this new film premier is the surprise finale.

Beaver Family Life - a new film by New England Forests

As leaves begin to drop from the trees in autumn, beavers are tirelessly preparing for the coming cold. The adults work day and night to gather branches for their winter food cache, and to plaster insulating mud on their lodge home. All the while, their offspring of the year are learning those skills and participating in the work.

This new film chronicles the lives of one beaver family, beginning in autumn and following their routines for a year. They take down trees, build a winter food supply, maintain their lodge, deal with winter ice, build dams, raise young, and move on to new homes.

We'll get close looks at the lives of some other inhabitants of this beaver pond world as well: nesting yellow-bellied sapsuckers, gray tree frogs, and the unique Harvester butterfly.

There are scenes from our local area that most nature lovers have never observed in the wild.

Social hour at 6, light refreshments, feel free to bring your own food and drinks. All community events are donation-based and all-ages.
