Exciting Family-friendly Events at the Sustainability Fair

The Sustainability Fair returns to the Simsbury Public Library on May 2 with resources for adults and activities for young people.  The Sustainability Fair will start at 10 a.m. and run through 2 p.m.  34 different vendors and organizations will participate in this event sponsored by the Simsbury Public Library and Simsbury Sustainability Committee, and co-sponsored by the Avon Clean Energy Commission and the Bloomfield Conservation, Energy and Environment Committee.

The Fair provides opportunities for participants to learn about conserving and enjoying local natural habitats: our rivers (Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook Wild and Scenic), our forests and open spaces (Simsbury Land Trust, the Sierra Club, Trees for Bloomfield, Pollinator Pathway), and our walking and biking trails (Farmington Valley Trails Council).  The Fair offers opportunities to buy plants and learn about home gardening with Holcomb Farm, Thrive Farm, and Levo International.  Free seeds for your garden will be provided by the Bionutient Food Association.

Young people can engage in the Simsbury Land Trust’s nature walk at 10:30 a.m., see Auer Farm's rabbits and goats, upcycle books with the Simsbury Public Library, plant seeds with the Avon Clean Energy Commission, and earn prizes with the library’s sustainability calendar.  Children’s author Kim Haidinger will display her climate-oriented  books.

Participants can benefit  from energy-efficient resources like better insulation and heat pumps (New England Smart Energy), better windows, (Inner Glass), solar and storage (Earthlight Solar), sustainable architecture (Wolfworks) and recycling and reusing (Blue Earth, ReThink Disposable, and Clynck).

The Sustainability Fair is free and open to the public.
