Simsbury Democrats nominated candidates for State Representative and Registrar of Voters at a party caucus on Wednesday.
Freshman legislator State Representative John K. Hampton was nominated for re-election to a second term. Hampton is widely credited for initiating legislation passed this session that will create a long needed state water plan. Hampton serves on the Aging Committee, the Education Committee, and the Public Safety and Security Committee. Prior to his election to the state legislature, Mr. Hampton served on the Simsbury Board of Selectmen from 2003-2102 and as Deputy First Selectman since 2007.
"I am humbled and honored to accept my party's nomination for re-election," said Hampton in his remarks. "I am grateful to them and to the people of Simsbury for giving me the privilege to represent them at the Capitol."
"We are proud to have John represent us. His dedication to the position is only surpassed by his effectiveness in Hartford advocating for both the town and the region's important issues as our state representative," said Democratic Party Chair Amy McLean Salls.
Also nominated for re-election at the caucus was Registrar of Voters Karen Cortés. Cortés is a member of the legislative committee of the Registrar of Voters Association of Connecticut and was instrumental in advocating for legislation that will improve efficiency and reduce costs for elections.
