Dump Household Hazardous Waste In Simsbury This Weekend; 6 Towns Eligible
Residents of Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury, and Suffield are invited to dump household waste and shred documents.
SIMSBURY, CT — Residents of six Farmington Valley communities will have an opportunity Saturday to dispose of household hazardous waste and securely shred documents during a regional collection event in Simsbury.
The collection will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road in West Simsbury.
The event is open to residents of Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury and Suffield. Proof of residency is required.

The regional program is intended to keep potentially hazardous materials that cannot be placed in regular household trash out of transfer stations and landfills.

- When: Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Where: Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury.
- Eligible communities: Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury and Suffield.
- Accepted materials: Household quantities of hazardous waste, including pesticides, paints, cleaning chemicals, and antifreeze.
- Not accepted: Commercially generated waste.
- Document shredding: Residents may bring up to two copy paper-sized boxes of documents for shredding.
- At the event: Residents should remain in their vehicles and follow directions from attendants.
Officials recommend that residents who only need to dispose of paint consider using Connecticut's PaintCare recycling program instead because lines at household hazardous waste events can be lengthy.
PaintCare operates drop-off locations where consumers can bring eligible leftover architectural paint for recycling.
