Only 10 Days Until the Walk Against Hunger

It’s not too late to join our team or to support one of our Walkers! Now that the weather is nice, come Walk Against Hunger!

Find out what's happening in Simsburyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Gifts of Love is a Foodshare partner agency so, unlike other walks, up to $.75 of every dollar raised actually comes back to the Farmington Valley. Many are surprised to realize that approximately 20% of the Gifts of Love clients come from the Farmington Valley. Last year, Gifts of Love provided over 25,000 pounds of food, $21,000 worth of household items, and 562 bags of clothing to these residents in the valley.

STAMP OUT HUNGER MAY 9th:
404.jpgOn Saturday, May 9, the National Association of Letter Carriers members across the United States once again will use the U.S. Postal Service’s universal delivery network not just to pick up and deliver mail, but also to collect and distribute food to the hungry in our communities-all part of the 23rd annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. In more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions, letter carriers will be found collecting sacks of non-perishable food items left by customers’ mailboxes. Volunteers from local food banks, pitch in to help retrieve the bags of food from postal vehicles and transport this much-needed nourishment to local charitable organizations dedicated to serving the hungry.

Since 1993, families have donated nearly 1 billion pounds of food to Stamp Out Hunger. You can help make this year our most successful ever. Simply place bags filled with nonperishable food items like canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice next to your mailbox on Saturday, May 9th.

Your letter carrier will pick up the bags and deliver them to the post office

Volunteers from Gifts of Love will pick up all donations, sort them and get them on the shelves for our neighbors in need. Truly Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
