Celebrate Halloween Throughout October with Events for Children and Adults of All Ages

Throughout October, the Storyteller’s Cottage will host seven spooky and fun Halloween events and activities: Tim Burton Macabre Drawing, Art Macabre: Ghoulish Drawing by Candlelight, Spooky Victorian Parlor Magic & Graveyard Stroll, Haunted Graveyard: A Wandering Mystery Game, a Halloween Haunted Dinner Party & Seance, Goblins & Giggles: Scary Stories for Kids, and Into the Dark: Stories from the Shadows.
Tim Burton Macabre Drawing
- Friday, October 18 | 5:30-7:30 pm
- Cost: $45
- Children ages 10 and up who love the charmingly creepy artwork of Tim Burton can join artist Robin Towle-Fecso to learn to emulate his macabre style, just in time for Halloween!

Art Macabre: Ghoulish Drawing by Candlelight

- Guests can spend a spooky evening in our candlelit magical and medieval spaces drawing live models as they drift by dressed as Victorian ghosts! Art instructor Robin Towle-Fesco will circulate as they draw, offering feedback and tips. Our inspirational space, full of flickering shadows, mysterious objects, and creepy music, sparks creativity. This will be the most unusual and immersive activity they've ever celebrated the Halloween season with!

Spooky Victorian Parlor Magic & Graveyard Stroll
- Saturday, October 19 | 8:00-9:30 pm
- Cost: $50, includes soft drinks & dessert (cash bar available)
- Guests will experience the most unique live magic show in Connecticut and be thrilled to the point of goosebumps! As it befits the season, we’ll begin with a casual stroll through the Simsbury Cemetery across the street at dusk. Then, expert magician David Reed-Brown will perform fascinating sleight-of-hand tricks in our candlelit Jules Verne Steampunk Library while guests enjoy elegant hors d’oeuvres and dessert. Set in a vintage party atmosphere, the show allows guests to get up-close and personal with this talented magician as he wanders among them while they eat and chat. Surrounded by vintage red and gold wall coverings, antique Victorian furnishings, and “smoky” low lighting, guests will feel transported to the Victorian era, the golden age of magic. (Ages 12 and up).

Haunted Graveyard: A Wandering Mystery Game

- Cost: $35
- Guests can join a group of die-hard escape room fans for a uniquely spooky one-time mystery game that starts across the street in the Simsbury Cemetery and ends at the Storyteller’s Cottage. They’ll meet at dusk to collect clues about famous Simsbury residents from their gravestones, then use what they’ve learned to solve a special Halloween mystery room. Guests are welcome to come dressed in their favorite creepy outfits if they’d like!

Halloween Haunted Dinner Party & Seance
- Saturday, October 26 | 6:00-9:00 pm
- Cost: $60
- Guests can come in their creepiest costume and spend an eerie evening dining with the dead. We’ll begin the night with a stroll through the graveyard across the street to whet the appetite, then launch our macabre festivities with blood-red smoking cocktails. Guests will gather around our ghoulish table in the darkened Victorian Parlor and try to identify the array of tantalizing tidbits by the flickering candlelight. We’ll cap off the evening with a seance led by a professional medium.

Goblins & Giggles: Scary Stories for Kids
- Wednesday, October 30 | 6:30-7:30 pm
- Cost: $15 per adult; $10 per child | Save: $35 per family (up to 4 people)
- “Who’s in the cave? It says it’s going to eat you! Is there anything scary out there in the dark? Ever heard of a ghoul that just wants to show you how silly she can be? Why is the boy afraid of the red, red lips? Or the green pants? Do you know the magical spell to get rid of a monster that comes to town? How do you get rid of a Belly Button monster? Listen and you’ll find out!” Guests can join professional storyteller Rona Leventhal to kick off their Halloween celebration with a tale or two that will put shivers up their spines and send them home with a smile! (Great for ages 5-8).

Into the Dark: Stories from the Shadows (for adults & teens)

- Teenagers and adults can start their Halloween a night early with scary stories by candlelight! In “Into the Dark: Stories from the Shadows,” Rona Leventhal uses her skills as a seasoned storyteller to invite listeners into the realm of the mystical, supernatural, eerie… and downright creepy! Rona takes traditional stories and shapes them into tantalizing tales adults and fearless teens.

The Storyteller’s Cottage is located in a vintage Victorian house in the center of historic Simsbury, CT, and hosts all manner of immersive literary events throughout the year, including Agatha Christie inspired live murder mystery parties, Great Gatsby themed Jazz Supper Clubs, fascinating close-up illusions at Fine Parlor Magic nights, a Literary Dinner Party series on select evenings at midnight, and more.
